Date: April 1, 2011
There was no surprise when 11th ranked Dinamo Tbilisi (2-17) was crushed on the road by third ranked Kutaisi (13-5) 93-70. The game was mostly controlled by Kutaisi. Dinamo Tbilisi was better in second period 14-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kutaisi dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Dinamo Tbilisi's 34. Kutaisi forced 21 Dinamo Tbilisi turnovers and outrebounded them 48-30 including a 21-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Kutaisi players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. 26 personal fouls committed by Dinamo Tbilisi helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by forward Giorgi Barbakadze (203-91) who scored that evening 27 points and 6 rebounds and center Viktor Koguashvili (204-85) supported him with 16 points and 11 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Even 14 points and 5 assists by guard Irakli Ivaneishvili (194-89) did not help to save the game for Dinamo Tbilisi. Guard Lasha Edzgveradze (185-87) added 5 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for the guests. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Kutaisi maintains third position with 13-5 record having just three points less than leader Army, which they share with MIA Tbilisi. Dinamo Tbilisi at the other side stay at the bottom place with 17 games lost. Kutaisi's next round opponent will be Batumi (#8) on the road where they are favorite. Dinamo Tbilisi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tbilisi GTU.
