There was a small surprise when sixth ranked Fuerza Guinda Nogales (8-6) beat on the road one of their biggest challengers Caballeros de Culiacan (8-6) 87-82 on Saturday. Caballeros de Culiacan trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 22-16 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 82-87 at the end of the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Fuerza Guinda Nogales made 16 blocks. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Omar Quintero (183-81, college: S.Nazarene) who scored 22 points. Bahamas power forward Ryan Moss (200-74, college: UALR) chipped in 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks. Four Fuerza Guinda Nogales players scored in double figures. American guard Kevin Sowell (190-81) produced a double-double by scoring 30 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 blocks and his fellow American import guard Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV) added 20 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Fuerza Guinda Nogales moved-up to third place, which they share with Guasave and Culiacan. Fuerza Guinda Nogales will face Tijuana Zonkeys (#8) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Caballeros de Culiacan will play against Ostioneros de Guaymas (#7).
