Regular Season Round 16: Hermosillo - Tepic 100-94

Date: April 6, 2011
Very expected game when 10th ranked Coras de Tepic (2-14) was defeated on the road by second ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (13-3) 100-94 on Wednesday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Coras de Tepic was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Rayos de Hermosillo made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Rayos de Hermosillo made 12 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Jesus Lopez (205-83, college: SW Baptist) who helped to win the game recording 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and American center Marquise Gray (206-86, college: Michigan St., agency: ZAG Advocates) who added 21 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga, agency: Dream Team Management) responded with 34 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 blocks and swingman Juan Pablo Bravo (191) scored 23 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Rayos de Hermosillo have a solid four-game winning streak. They used an opportunity after Cananea lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Coras de Tepic lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 14 games lost. Rayos de Hermosillo will face Fuerza Guinda Nogales (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Coras de Tepic will play against Bomberos de Mexicali (#5).
