Regular Season Round 16: Tijuana - Nogales 91-99
Date: April 6, 2011
Rather predictable result when fourth ranked Fuerza Guinda Nogales (9-7) defeated on the road 8th ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (7-9) 99-91 on Wednesday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Tijuana Zonkeys won third quarter 31-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Fuerza Guinda Nogales won last quarter 34-28. They made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Fuerza Guinda Nogales especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.0 percentage. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Fuerza Guinda Nogales made 15 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Venezuelan forward Jermaine Walker (198-77, college: Miami, FL) who helped to win the game recording 36 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds and Bahamas power forward Ryan Moss (200-74, college: UALR) who added 18 points and 14 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American forward Travis Gabbidon (201, college: UTSA) responded with 30 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and Canadian guard Jermaine Watson (193-81, college: Boston Coll., agency: KMG Sports Management) scored 17 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Tijuana Zonkeys' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Fuerza Guinda Nogales moved-up to third place, which they share with Guasave. Loser Tijuana Zonkeys keep the eighth position with nine games lost. Fuerza Guinda Nogales will face league's second-placed Rayos de Hermosillo at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Tijuana Zonkeys will play against Caballeros de Culiacan (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
