There was no surprise when 7th ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (8-10) were defeated on the road by third ranked Frayles de Guasave (11-7) 110-95. Frayles de Guasave made 25-of-30 charity shots (83.3 percent) during the game. Frayles de Guasave outrebounded Ostioneros de Guaymas 37-26 including 26 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. Frayles de Guasave brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. American guard William Funn (188-82, college: Portland St.) nailed a double-double by scoring 19 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists for the winning side and his fellow American import guard Rasheem Barrett (196-87, college: Auburn, agency: SportsList Inc.) accounted for 23 points and 5 assists. Funn is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American forward Jerome Habel (208-85, college: San Diego St.) came up with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international center Ramses Benitez (210-79) added 13 points respectively for Ostioneros de Guaymas in the defeat. Five Frayles de Guasave and four Ostioneros de Guaymas players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Frayles de Guasave. They maintain third place with 11-7 record having four points less than leader Cananea. Ostioneros de Guaymas at the other side keep the seventh position with ten games lost. Frayles de Guasave's next round opponent will be again Ostioneros de Guaymas (#7) at home.
