Second Stage Round 5: KK Split - Cibona 79-75

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both fifth ranked KK Split and 4th placed Cibona had identical 2-2 record. This time KK Split used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Zagreb 79-75 on Sunday night. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Cibona won third quarter 20-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Cibona was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. Swingman Josip Sobin (203-89) stepped up and scored 20 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and guard Toni Katic (185-92) chipped in 17 points and 4 assists. Four KK Split players scored in double figures. International swingman Bojan Bogdanovic (202-89) responded with 15 points and the former international forward Marin Rozic (201-83) scored 8 points and 5 rebounds. Cibona's coach Josip Vrankovic tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. KK Split (3-2) moved-up to fourth place in Group A. Defending champion Cibona dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. KK Split will face league's second-placed KK Zagreb CO at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cibona will play against Alkar Sinj and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
