Ninth-ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (3-16) gave a tough game to fifth ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (10-9) on Tuesday. The visitors from Culiacan managed to secure only one-point victory 92-91. However their fans expected much easier game. Pioneros Los Mochis were tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Caballeros de Culiacan made 9 blocks. It was a great evening for American guard Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV) who led his team to a victory scoring 33 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. Naturalized American guard Franco Harris (183-83, college: Boise St.) helped adding 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. At the losing side American guard Detrick White (184-76, college: Mississippi St.) responded with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists and the former international swingman Erick Hare (196-79, college: Albertson) scored 21 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Nogales and Mexicali. Pioneros Los Mochis lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 16 games lost. Caballeros de Culiacan will have a break next round. Pioneros Los Mochis will play again at home against Caballeros de Culiacan (#6).
