Regular Season Round 24: Aris - AEK Athens 78-74
Date: April 13, 2011
Very expected game when 12th ranked AEK (7-17) lost to fourth ranked Aris (13-11) in Thessaloniki 74-78 on Wednesday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. AEK trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 20-13 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 74-78 at the end of the game. Aris made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. The winners were led by guard Kosta Charalampidis (189-76) who scored that evening 18 points and 5 rebounds and the former international forward Christos Tapoutos (208-82) supported him with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Aris' coach Slobodan Subotic used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Even 12 points and 6 rebounds by the former international power forward Dimos Dikoudis (207-77) did not help to save the game for AEK. American-Bosnian guard Terell Castle (182-72, college: Nicholls St., agency: Court Side) added 11 points and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Aris have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 13-11 record. Loser AEK keeps the twelfth place with 17 games lost. They share the position with Ilysiakos. Aris will meet Panionios (#9) in the next round where they are favorite. AEK will play against Marousi and hope to secure a win.
