No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (11-9) defeated on the road bottom-ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (3-17) 99-89 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Caballeros de Culiacan. Pioneros Los Mochis managed to win third quarter 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Pioneros Los Mochis 42-29 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Caballeros de Culiacan made 10 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 27 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists and naturalized American forward Quentin Gonzalez (200-84, college: McNeese St.) who added 20 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Five Caballeros de Culiacan players scored in double figures. Caballeros de Culiacan's coach Jonathan Meza used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American guard Detrick White (184-76, college: Mississippi St.) responded with 30 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists and guard Carlos M. Toussaint (190-91, college: High School) scored 16 points. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Guasave and Nogales. Pioneros Los Mochis lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with 17 games lost. Caballeros de Culiacan will meet at home Coras de Tepic (#9) in the next round where they are favorite. Pioneros Los Mochis will play against Ostioneros de Guaymas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
