There was no surprise when 13th ranked Denek (13-17) lost on the road to third ranked Angers BC 49 (19-11) 77-64 on Friday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Angers BC 49's pressure prevailed and they won that period 18-6 extending their advantage to 13 points. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Denek to just 6 points in fourth quarter. They outrebounded Denek 42-29 including 17 on the offensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for American power forward Damien Griffin (203-80, college: Mountain St., agency: Hart Sports Mngm) who led the winners and scored 18 points and 7 rebounds. Forward Jean-Victor Traore (204-85) accounted for 14 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Four Angers BC 49 players scored in double figures. American guard Larry Blair (183-84, college: Liberty, agency: JEMsports) came up with 31 points and 4 assists and American-Portuguese power forward Calvin Clemmons (203-81, college: Charlotte) added 17 points respectively for Denek in the defeat. Angers BC 49 maintains third place with 19-11 record having seven points less than leader Bordeaux. Loser Denek dropped to the eleventh position with 17 games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Angers BC 49 will meet Blois (#9) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Denek will play against Orchesien BC in Orchies and hope to secure a win.
