Regular Season Round 22: Sokhumi - MIA Academy 73-78

Date: April 16, 2011
The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tbilisi: MIA (#4) and Sokhumi (#5). Sokhumi was defeated at home 73-78 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Sokhumi. Sokhumi was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. MIA dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Sokhumi's 24. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Besik Lezhava (193-86) who helped to win the game recording 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard Troy Cotton (185-88, college: Wisc.-Green Bay) contributed with 18 points for the winners. Guard Lasha Parghalava (191-87, college: Montana St. - Billin) replied with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and American forward Richard Damus (198-83, college: Troy) added 10 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks in the effort for Sokhumi. Four Sokhumi players scored in double figures. MIA maintains fourth position with 14-6 record. Sokhumi at the other side keeps the fifth place with eight games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
