No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Panelefsiniakos (14-9) beat bottom-ranked Near East (4-19) in Eleusina 85-69 on Saturday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Panelefsiniakos's pressure prevailed and they won that period 22-11 extending their advantage to 16 points. Panelefsiniakos outrebounded Near East 39-26 including 30 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Forward Paris Martzos (197-85) orchestrated the victory by scoring 31 points (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field). Guard Thomas Nikou (185-79) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists for the winners. Guard Alkis Pappas (185-88, agency: FCM) answered with 13 points and center Alexandros Gribaviotis (207-79) added 14 points in the effort for Near East. Four Near East players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Panelefsiniakos have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Ikaroi Serron. Near East lost eighth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 19 games lost. Panelefsiniakos will face Koroivos (#15) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Near East will play against Olimpiada in Patras.
