Fifteenth-ranked Assignia Manresa (9-21) was very close to win a game against eighth ranked Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (17-13) in Madrid on Sunday. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada managed to secure only one-point victory 55-54. However their fans expected much easier game. Assignia Manresa was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Mexican power forward Gustavo Ayon (209-85, college: San Jose St., agency: Duran International) notched a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and Argentinian-Italian forward Leonardo Mainoldi (204-85) supported him with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Even 13 points and 8 rebounds by Slovenian power forward Uros Slokar (210-83) did not help to save the game for Assignia Manresa. Guard Rodrigo San Miguel (190-85) added 9 points and 7 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Unicaja and Gran Canaria. Assignia Manresa lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifteenth position with 21 games lost. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada will meet higher ranked Bizkaia Bilbao (#5) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Assignia Manresa will play against Cajasol (#13) in Sevilla and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
