The biggest surprise of round 26 was guest Air Avellino's (#5) road victory over Pepsi Caserta (#8) 83-75 on Sunday evening. Pepsi Caserta trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 23-20 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 75-83 at the end of the game. The best player for the winners was American forward Linton Johnson (203-80, college: Tulane, agency: Priority Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Polish center Szymon Szewczyk (209-82) chipped in 20 points and 7 rebounds. American forward Jumaine Jones (202-79, college: Georgia) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 15 rebounds and Nigerian-American swingman Ebi Ere (195-81, college: Oklahoma) added 19 points respectively for the hosts. Five Air Avellino and four Pepsi Caserta players scored in double figures. Air Avellino maintains fifth position with 13-13 record, which they share with Cimberio VA and CS Bologna. Pepsi Caserta at the other side keeps the eighth place with 14 games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Air Avellino is looking forward to face Dinamo Sassari (#10) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Pepsi Caserta will play against Lottomatica Roma and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
