Thirteenth-ranked Assigeco BPL (10-18) used its home court advantage to challenge third ranked Sigma Barcellona (19-9) in Lodi on Sunday. The visitors from Barcellona managed to secure only three-point victory 76-73. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Assigeco BPL won fourth quarter 25-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sigma Barcellona made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. Assigeco BPL was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for Panamanian guard Michael Hicks (193-76, college: Texas A&M - C.C.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds. American guard Joseph Crispin (186-79, college: Penn St.) contributed with 21 points and 4 assists for the winners. American guard Paul Marigney (192-82, college: St.Mary's, CA) replied with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and power forward Diego Banti (204-83, agency: Interperformances) added 16 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Assigeco BPL. Sigma Barcellona have a solid three-game winning streak. Newly promoted Sigma Barcellona maintains third position with 19-9 record behind leader Fastweb CM. Loser Assigeco BPL dropped to the twelfth place with 18 games lost. Sigma Barcellona will face Trenkwalder RE (#15) in Reggio Emilia in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Assigeco BPL will play on the road against Aget Imola and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
