Round 23 in CIBACOPA means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Cananea where host Mineros de Cananea (19-4) beat league's leader Rayos de Hermosillo (18-5) 87-77 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Rayos de Hermosillo. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 47-32 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was guard Davin White (186-81, college: Cal.St. Northridge) who scored 29 points, 8 assists and 6 steals. Forward Derek Thomas (193-84, college: Appalachian St.) chipped in 22 points and 4 assists. Center Marquise Gray (206-86, college: Michigan St.) produced 20 points and 5 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and forward Terrence Thomas (198-80, college: Baylor) added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Five Rayos de Hermosillo players scored in double figures. Mineros de Cananea have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Rayos de Hermosillo at the other side dropped to the second place with five games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Cananea. Rayos de Hermosillo will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Mineros de Cananea will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Rayos de Hermosillo at home.
