An interesting game was also surprising road defeat of 4th ranked Frayles de Guasave in a game versus Bomberos de Mexicali (#7) 104-93. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Frayles de Guasave. Bomberos de Mexicali dominated down low during the game scoring 80 of its points in the paint compared to Frayles de Guasave's 54. They outrebounded Frayles de Guasave 45-29 including 16 on the offensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Bomberos de Mexicali made 11 blocks. The former international guard Richard Lopez (192-78, college: Cal.Baptist) nailed a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side and the former international power forward Hugo Carrillo (205-83) accounted for 19 points and 5 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Five Bomberos de Mexicali players scored in double figures. American guard Kevin Sowell (190-81) came up with 46 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds and the other American import guard Rasheem Barrett (196-87, college: Auburn, agency: SportsList Inc.) added 27 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Frayles de Guasave in the defeat. Bomberos de Mexicali maintains seventh place with 14-15 record, which they share with Tijuana. Loser Frayles de Guasave keeps the fourth position with 12 games lost. Bomberos de Mexicali will again meet at home higher ranked Frayles de Guasave (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Frayles de Guasave will have a break next round.
