Very important is a home loss of second ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (20-10) against sixth ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (16-14) on Saturday night. Host Rayos de Hermosillo was defeated by Ostioneros de Guaymas in a tough game in Hermosillo 88-93. The guests were already 14 points ahead at halftime and as many as 15 after three quarters before a 24-14 last quarter charge of Rayos de Hermosillo cut the lead to 93-88 at the end of the game. Ostioneros de Guaymas dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Rayos de Hermosillo's 44. American forward Jerome Habel (208-85, college: San Diego St.) notched 25 points and 6 rebounds to lead the effort and the other American import guard Craig Winder (188-84, college: Texas, agency: Prossin Sports Management) supported him with 18 points and 5 assists. Five Ostioneros de Guaymas players scored in double figures. Ostioneros de Guaymas' coach Eduardo Opezzo allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 19 points and 6 rebounds by American center Marquise Gray (206-86, college: Michigan St.) did not help to save the game for Rayos de Hermosillo. Guard Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV) added 21 points and 5 blocks. Ostioneros de Guaymas maintains sixth position with 16-14 record. Rayos de Hermosillo at the other side keeps the second place with ten games lost. They share the position with Culiacan. Ostioneros de Guaymas will play against higher ranked Fuerza Guinda Nogales (#5) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Rayos de Hermosillo will play against Pioneros Los Mochis and hopes to get back on the winning track.
