The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Mineros de Cananea (23-7) at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by third ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (20-10) 92-87. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Mineros de Cananea won third quarter 21-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Caballeros de Culiacan made 25-of-31 free shots (80.6 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Caballeros de Culiacan made 8 blocks. Americans were the main players on the court. Guard Marcus Moore (198-80, college: Washington St.) scored 39 points (!!!) to lead the charge for the winners and guard Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV) chipped in 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Four Caballeros de Culiacan and five Mineros de Cananea players scored in double figures. Mineros de Cananea's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Hermosillo. Mineros de Cananea at the other side still keeps top position with seven games lost. Caballeros de Culiacan is looking forward to face Frayles de Guasave (#4) at home in the next round. Mineros de Cananea will play against Coras de Tepic and is hoping to win this game.
