An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Culiacan. Second ranked Caballeros de Culiacan faced 4th placed Frayles de Guasave. Host Caballeros de Culiacan (21-10) defeated guests from Guasave (18-13) 103-94. The hosts were already 13 points ahead at halftime and as many as 17 after three quarters before a 31-23 last quarter charge of Frayles de Guasave cut the lead to 103-94 at the end of the game. Caballeros de Culiacan dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Frayles de Guasave's 50. Caballeros de Culiacan players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The game was dominated by American players. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV) who helped to win the game recording 30 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Marcus Moore (198-80, college: Washington St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Caballeros de Culiacan's coach Jonathan Meza used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Rasheem Barrett (196-87, college: Auburn, agency: SportsList Inc.) answered with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds and guard William Funn (188-82, college: Portland St.) added 21 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists in the effort for Frayles de Guasave. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains second place with 21-10 record having just three points less than leader Cananea, which they share with Hermosillo. Frayles de Guasave at the other side keeps the fourth position with 13 games lost. Caballeros de Culiacan will again play against Frayles de Guasave (#4) at home in the next round. Frayles de Guasave will have a break next round.
