We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 7th ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (15-17) lost at home to eighth ranked Bomberos de Mexicali (15-17) 90-78 on Wednesday. The guests trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 90-78. Bomberos de Mexicali dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Tijuana Zonkeys' 50. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Bomberos de Mexicali made 7 blocks. The former international power forward Hugo Carrillo (205-83) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 6 rebounds. American guard Michael Gale (193-82, college: Centenary) contributed with 16 points and 5 assists for the winners. American forward Travis Gabbidon (201, college: UTSA) replied with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international guard Enrique Zuniga (193-76, college: Grand Canyon) added 18 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Tijuana Zonkeys. Five Bomberos de Mexicali and four Tijuana Zonkeys players scored in double figures. Bomberos de Mexicali moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Tijuana. Bomberos de Mexicali will face higher ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (#5) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
