Regular Season Round 35: Guasave - Los Mochis 128-118

Not a big story in a game when 10th ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (4-31) were defeated on the road by fourth ranked Frayles de Guasave (21-14) 128-118. The game was mostly controlled by Frayles de Guasave. Pioneros Los Mochis was better in fourth quarter 35-30. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Frayles de Guasave made 23-of-28 charity shots (82.1 percent) during the game. Frayles de Guasave had a 33-22 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. Frayles de Guasave brought some defensive toughness making 10 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Kevin Sowell (190-81) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 7 assists. His fellow American import guard William Funn (188-82, college: Portland St.) accounted for 25 points, 7 rebounds and 16 assists for the winning side. Sowell is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Frayles de Guasave's coach Marcelo Elusich used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American guard Detrick White (184-76, college: Mississippi St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 12 assists and the former international swingman Raymundo Castillo (197-82, college: UTPA) added 22 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Pioneros Los Mochis in the defeat. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Frayles de Guasave have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 21-14 record. Pioneros Los Mochis lost third consecutive game. They stay dead last with 31 lost games. Frayles de Guasave will again play against bottom-ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (#10) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Pioneros Los Mochis will have a break next round.
