There was no surprise when 10th ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (4-32) were defeated on the road by fourth ranked Frayles de Guasave (22-14) 113-103. The game was mostly controlled by Frayles de Guasave. Pioneros Los Mochis was better in second period 33-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Frayles de Guasave had a 36-24 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Pioneros Los Mochis' players. Frayles de Guasave brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. It was a good game for American guard Kevin Sowell (190-81) who led his team to a victory with 38 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 5 assists. The other American import guard Rasheem Barrett (196-87, college: Auburn, agency: SportsList Inc.) contributed with 28 points for the winners. Sowell is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American guard Detrick White (184-76, college: Mississippi St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international swingman Raymundo Castillo (197-82, college: UTPA) added 15 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Pioneros Los Mochis. Four Frayles de Guasave and five Pioneros Los Mochis players scored in double figures. Frayles de Guasave have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 22-14 record. Pioneros Los Mochis lost fourth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 32 lost games. Frayles de Guasave will play against Ostioneros de Guaymas (#5) on the road in the next round. Pioneros Los Mochis will play against the league's leader Mineros de Cananea (#1) and hope to get back on the winning track.
