Rather predictable result when seventh ranked Bomberos de Mexicali (17-21) defeated at home 9th ranked Coras de Tepic (8-30) 80-72 on Saturday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 23-11. But Coras de Tepic won second period 20-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Coras de Tepic 38-27 including 23 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Bomberos de Mexicali made 14 blocks. Americans were the main players on the court. The best player for the winners was center Scott VanderMeer (213-86, college: Ill.-Chicago, agency: Edge Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 15 rebounds. Guard Michael Gale (193-82, college: Centenary) chipped in 18 points, 7 assists and 5 steals. Forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga, agency: Dream Team Management) produced a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds and swingman Cleotis Brown (198-77, college: Illinois, agency: Dream Team Management) added 11 points and 7 assists respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Bomberos de Mexicali maintains seventh position with 17-21 record. Coras de Tepic lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 30 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
