Rather expected game when 8th ranked AEK/Argous (13-15) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Apollon Patras (15-13) 74-59 on Saturday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Apollon Patras's pressure prevailed and they won that period 18-6 extending their advantage to 15 points. They dominated on the defensive end, holding AEK/Argous to just 6 points in fourth quarter. Apollon Patras made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 AEK/Argous turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Nikos Argyropoylos (188-78) who helped to win the game recording 21 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and guard Giannis Lianos (194-88) who added 19 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side power forward Andronikos Gizogiannis (200-83, agency: FCM) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) and American-Icelandic guard Darrel Lewis (192-76, college: Lincoln, MO) scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Apollon Patras moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Arkadikos. AEK/Argous at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the ninth position with 15 games lost. Apollon Patras will face Panelefsiniakos (#8) in Eleusina in the next round. AEK/Argous will play at home against the league's leader KAOD in Dramas.
