The most important game in the last round took place in Serres between third ranked Ikaroi Serron (18-10) and sixteenth ranked Near East (8-20) on Saturday night. Ikaroi Serron was defeated by Near East in a tough game at home 98-104. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Ikaroi Serron. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 104-98. Strangely Ikaroi Serron outrebounded Near East 45-17 including a 19-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 55.6 percentage. 30 personal fouls committed by Ikaroi Serron helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international guard Filippos Moschovitis (190-78) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 6 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and Serbian guard Milan Stanojevic (188-86, college: E.Washington) who added 22 points and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side center Kostas Kakaroudis (204-83) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds and guard Savvas Kaberidis (187-78) scored 17 points (made all of his eight free throws). Five Near East and four Ikaroi Serron players scored in double figures. Ikaroi Serron's coach Lefteris Hatzikiriakidis rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Near East have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain sixteenth position with 8-20 record. Ikaroi Serron at the other side keeps the third place with ten games lost. Near East are looking forward to face higher ranked Pagrati (#13) in Athens in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Ikaroi Serron will play on the road against Koroivos (#14) and is hoping to win this game.
