Regular Season Round 3: Huracanes - Toros 80-88
Date: September 8, 2011
Everything could happen in Tampico at the game between two tied teams. Both ninth ranked Toros and 8th ranked Huracanes had identical 1-1 record. But Huracanes were not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Nuevo Laredo 88-80. It looked good early as Huracanes took an 5-point lead at the end of first quarter. Then Toros had a 22-16 second period charge getting the lead and Huracanes were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 80-88. 28 personal fouls committed by Huracanes helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American players dominated also this game. The best player for the winners was forward Justin Brownlee (201, college: St.John's) who scored 33 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Guard Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds. Four Toros players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was center Albert Fuqua (211-83, college: UTSA, agency: Top Notch Sports) who recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and power forward Robert Hornsby (196-82, college: Troy) added 19 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Huracanes' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Toros (2-1) moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Soles and Pioneros. Huracanes at the other side keep the eighth position with two games lost. Toros' next round opponent will be Correcaminos (#9) in Ciudad Victoria which should be theoretically an easy game.
