There was no surprise when 9th ranked Americana (3-5) was defeated at home by fifth ranked Sao Jose/Vinac (6-2) 77-66. The game was mostly controlled by Sao Jose/Vinac. Americana was better in fourth quarter 25-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sao Jose/Vinac made 22-of-28 charity shots (78.6 percent) during the game. Sao Jose/Vinac outrebounded Americana 43-29 including 30 on the defensive glass. Americana was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for the former international power forward Jefferson Antonio (207-83) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds. The former international guard Fulvio de Assis (187-81) contributed with 18 points and 8 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) for the winners. Four Sao Jose/Vinac players scored in double figures. Forward Alfredo Perandini (197-75) replied with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds and center Turcao Borges (208-78) added 10 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Americana. Sao Jose/Vinac moved-up to third place, which they share with Vivo/Franca and Paulistano. Americana at the other side keeps the ninth position with five games lost. They share it with Rio Claro and Jacarei. Sao Jose/Vinac will play against Jacarei (#9) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Americana will have a break next round.
