The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Barreteros as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Barreteros defeated 10th ranked Correcaminos in Zacatecas 91-85. The hosts trailed by 8 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 6 points. Barreteros shot 25 for 34 from the free-throw line, while Correcaminos only scored seven points from the stripe. Barreteros forced 20 Correcaminos turnovers. American guard Melvin Council (191-82, college: Robert Morris) orchestrated the victory by scoring 31 points and 5 steals (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!). Savador Cuevas contributed with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Barreteros' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Ronald Selleaze (197-76, college: CSU Bakersfield, agency: Dream Team Management) answered with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import forward James Penny (198-76, college: TCU) added 20 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Correcaminos. Four Correcaminos players scored in double figures. Barreteros (5-0) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Correcaminos lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the tenth place with four games lost. They share the position with Panteras and Aguilas Rojas. Correcaminos will play next round against Panteras trying to get back on the winning streak. Barreteros will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Huracanes in Tampico.
