Regular Season Round 8: Volcanes - Toros 71-90

Bottom-ranked Volcanes is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their eighth consecutive match to second ranked Toros (7-1) 90-71 on Wednesday evening. Volcanes were trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 25-14 charge of Toros, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Volcanes' 36. They outrebounded Volcanes 48-36 including a 40-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by American forward Devon Pearson (198-84, college: SMU) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 31 points and 12 rebounds and the former international forward Jesus Lopez (205-83, college: SW Baptist) supported him with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Toros' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 31 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists by American guard Larry Morinia (180-80, college: Montana St., agency: ProSportsCareers) did not help to save the game for Volcanes. Guard Carlos M. Toussaint (190-91) added 19 points for the hosts. Toros have an impressive six-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Barreteros. Loser Volcanes still closes the standings with eight games lost. Toros will meet Panteras (#13) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Volcanes will play against Pioneros in Cancun and hope to get finally their first victory.
