Rather expected game in Veracruz where 6th ranked Abejas (5-4) were defeated by fourth ranked Halcones Rojos (7-2) 83-71 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Halcones Rojos. Abejas managed to win fourth quarter 19-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Halcones Rojos forced 19 Abejas turnovers. Venezuelan point guard Gregory Vargas (182-86) fired 14 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Puerto Rican point guard Carlos Rivera (187-83, college: Hofstra, agency: Paris Global Sports) chipped in 16 points. Four Halcones Rojos players scored in double figures. Halcones Rojos' coach Eddie Casiano used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Marcus Jackson (202-82, college: Marquette, agency: Court Side) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Lorrenzo Wade (198-85, college: San Diego St.) added 16 points respectively for lost side. Halcones Rojos moved-up to third place. Abejas lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh position with four games lost. They share it with Corr.Victoria and Huracanes. Halcones Rojos will meet at home Correcaminos (#8) in the next round where they are favorite. Abejas will play against Toros in Nuevo Laredo and hope to secure a win.
