Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both leader Lapuan Korikobrat and bottom-ranked Porvoon Tarmo had identical 0-0 record. But Porvoon Tarmo was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Lapua 86-82 on Saturday night. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Porvoon Tarmo won third quarter 22-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American forward Casey Reed (197-86, college: Seattle Pacific) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import guard Walter Baxley (191-84, college: Mars Hill) chipped in 21 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side forward Esa Maki-Tulokas (200-82, college: LIU Brooklyn) responded with 13 points and guard Mikael Holme (192-79) scored 18 points. Five Porvoon Tarmo players scored in double figures. Lapuan Korikobrat (1-0) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Porvoon Tarmo still closes the standings with one game lost. Lapuan Korikobrat will face Torpan Pojat (#11) in Helsinki in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Porvoon Tarmo will play on the road against the league's leader BC Nokia and be promoted back to the Korisliiga just one year after relegation.
