Regular Season Round 12: Halc.Rojos - Huracanes 86-71

There was no surprise in Veracruz where 9th ranked Huracanes (5-6) were defeated by third ranked Halcones Rojos (9-2) 86-71 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Halcones Rojos. Huracanes was better in fourth quarter 26-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Halcones Rojos looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Huracanes' players. The best player for the winners was international guard Paul Stoll (178-85) who scored 12 points and 8 assists. Venezuelan point guard Gregory Vargas (182-86) chipped in 11 points and 8 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Albert Fuqua (211-83, college: UTSA) who recorded a double-double by scoring 11 points and 15 rebounds and U.S. Virgin Isl. Swingman Jason Edwin (197-81, college: Kent St.) added 16 points respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Halcones Rojos have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Loser Huracanes dropped to the seventh position with six games lost. Halcones Rojos will face Barreteros (#4) in Zacatecas in the next round. Huracanes will play at home against Pioneros in Cancun and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
