Regular Season Round 2: Sanda - Malbas 61-78

There was no surprise in Huskvarna where bottom-ranked Sanda Basket (0-2) was defeated by top-ranked Malbas (2-0) 78-61 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 11-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 78-61. Malbas dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Sanda Basket's 24. Malbas forced 21 Sanda Basket turnovers. Sanda Basket was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Australian guard John Fitzgerald (193-84, college: Lindsey Wilson) who scored 24 points and 7 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Kosovan power forward Korab Ferizi (201-85) chipped in a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Four Malbas players scored in double figures. Guard Adrian Thorangen (195-93) produced 17 points and forward Johan Ganstrand (192-93) added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Malbas keep a position of South leader, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Sanda Basket still closes the standings with two games lost. Malbas will have a break next round. Sanda Basket will play on the road against Hoganas (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
