Regular Season Round 2: Nice - Arras 70-77

Date: October 1, 2011
Not a big story in a game when bottom-ranked Nice (0-2) lost at home to top-ranked Arras (2-0) 77-70 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-17. But Nice won second period 14-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Arras made 27-of-33 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Romanian forward Gabriela Marginean (185-87, college: Drexel) notched 38 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds to lead the effort and DR Congolese power forward Pauline Akonga Nsimbo (187-82, agency: LBM Management) supported her with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Even 19 points (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) by Senegalese center Jeanne Senghor (191-82) did not help to save the game for Nice. American guard Kesley Bolte (185-88, college: Iowa St.) added 12 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. Nice's coach Olga Tarasenko rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Arras keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 4 other teams. Newly promoted Nice still closes the standings with two games lost. They share the position with 4 other teams. Arras will meet at home Villeneuve D'Asco (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Nice will play against Charleville-Mezieres and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
