Round 1 in WJBL means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Kashiwa where host JX Sunflowers (1-1) crushed league's leader Toyota Antelopes (1-1) 79-46 on Saturday evening. The game without a history. JX Sunflowers led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Toyota Antelopes to just 6 points in fourth quarter. JX Sunflowers dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Toyota Antelopes' 30. They outrebounded Toyota Antelopes 43-29 including a 32-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international power forward Yuka Mamiya (184-90) fired 20 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners. The former international power forward Ramu Tokashiki (191-91) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Four JX Sunflowers players scored in double figures. International guard Maya Kawahara (167-87) produced 16 points and 5 rebounds and the former international forward Ryoko Yano (178-78) added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion left bottom position moving up to fourth place, which they share with Toyota A. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
