The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Tartu Ulikool as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Tartu Ulikool defeated 6th ranked Rapla at home 79-72. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 28-8. But Rapla won second period 16-9. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Tartu Ulikool forced 21 Rapla turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Tartu Ulikool made 7 blocks. 25 personal fouls committed by Rapla helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. International guard Rain Veideman (192-91) stepped up and scored 16 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners and American forward Bill Amis (205-87, college: Hawaii) chipped in 11 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. Four Tartu Ulikool players scored in double figures. At the losing side forward Indrek Kajupank (200-88) responded with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds and power forward Raido Ringmets (206-83) scored 9 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Rapla at the other side dropped to the fourth place with one game lost. Rapla will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Tartu Ulikool will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked TTU/Kalev in Tallinn.
