An interesting game for Hitachi Sunrockers (1-1) which hosted in Osaka Hokkaido L. (1-1). Hitachi Sunrockers managed to get a 3-point victory 74-71. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 74-71. International power forward Joji Takeuchi (206-85, agency: N.E.T.) nailed a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side and international guard Fumio Nishimura (177-86) accounted for 15 points and 5 assists. The former international guard Takehiko Orimo (190-70) came up with 24 points and 5 rebounds and Senegalese swingman Mamadou Diouf (197-77, college: Delaware) added 13 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Hokkaido L. in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Despite that victory Hitachi Sunrockers went down to third position due to points difference, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Hokkaido L. Hitachi Sunrockers will meet bottom-ranked Toshiba Thunders (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Hokkaido L. will play against the league's leader Aishin Sea Horses (#1) in Kariya and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
