Regular Season Round 2: Heffingen - Musel Pikes 65-75
Date: October 7, 2011
Very significant was Musel Pikes' (#8) 75-65 road victory against bottom-ranked Heffingen. The game was mostly controlled by Musel Pikes. Heffingen was better in second period 14-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Musel Pikes forced 19 Heffingen turnovers. American power forward Brandon Gary (202-83, college: Hutchinson CC) notched a double-double by scoring 28 points and 18 rebounds to lead the effort and international guard Laurent Schwartz (180-89) supported him with 17 points. Even a double-double of 20 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) by Portuguese power forward Helder Carvalho (205-84) did not help to save the game for Heffingen. American forward William Walker (201-87, college: Bethel (IN), agency: Warren Sports International) added 8 points and 7 rebounds for the hosts. Heffingen's coach Bill Paterno rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Musel Pikes (1-1) left bottom position moving up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Heffingen still closes the standings with two games lost. They share the position with Sparta and BBC Nitia. Musel Pikes will play against bottom-ranked Sparta (#10) in Bertrange in the next round where they are favorite. Heffingen will play at home against BBC Nitia in Bettembourg and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
