Regular Season Round 3: Handlova - Vahostav-Zilina 91-70

There was a minor upset when bottom-ranked Vahostav-Zilina (0-2) was crushed on the road by eighth ranked Handlova (1-2) 91-70 on Saturday. The game without a history. Handlova led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Handlova shot 25 for 34 from the free-throw line, while Vahostav-Zilina only scored five points from the stripe. Handlova forced 20 Vahostav-Zilina turnovers. Vahostav-Zilina was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American swingman Anthony Jones (194-84, college: Indiana Tech) who scored 31 points and 4 assists. Croatian power forward Ivan Barisic (201-84) chipped in 22 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Spencer Perrin (195, college: E.Kentucky) who recorded 18 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import guard Perry Petty (185, college: UTPA) added 14 points and 6 assists respectively. Four Vahostav-Zilina players scored in double figures. Vahostav-Zilina's coach Ludovit Smacko gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Handlova left bottom position moving up to sixth place, which they share with Levice. Loser Vahostav-Zilina still closes the standings with two games lost. Handlova will face Levice (#7) at home in the next round. Vahostav-Zilina will play against SKP Banska Bystrica and hopes to get finally their first victory.
