Regular Season Round 1: Iwate Big Bulls - Sendai 89ers 61-74

There was a small surprise when leader Sendai 89ers (2-0) beat on the road bottom-ranked Iwate Big Bulls (0-2) 74-61 on Sunday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Sendai 89ers's pressure prevailed and they won that period 21-10 extending their advantage to 13 points. Sendai 89ers outrebounded Iwate Big Bulls 42-25 including a 34-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a very good performance for American forward Johnny Dukes (203-84, college: San Bernardino CC) who helped to win the game recording 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import forward Daniel Fitzgerald (206-84, college: Marquette) contributed with 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Fitzgerald is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. Guard Yoshiaki Yamamoto (-82) answered with 14 points and American forward Sean Coleman (203-87, college: Houston) added 9 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Iwate Big Bulls. Despite that victory Sendai 89ers went down to first position due to points difference. Iwate Big Bulls at the other side still closes the standings with two games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
