Regular Season Round 2: Lapua - HBA-Marsky 101-65
Date: October 9, 2011
There was no surprise when bottom-ranked Torpan Pojat (0-2) was crushed on the road by top-ranked Lapuan Korikobrat (2-0) 101-65. It looked good early as Torpan Pojat took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Lapuan Korikobrat had a 21-12 second period charge getting the lead and Torpan Pojat was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 65-101. Lapuan Korikobrat dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Torpan Pojat's 36 and made 19-of-25 charity shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Lapuan Korikobrat forced 35 Torpan Pojat turnovers. Torpan Pojat was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Walter Baxley (191-84, college: Mars Hill) orchestrated the victory by scoring 39 points (!!!) (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field). The other American import forward Eric Williams (198-85, college: Tarleton St.) contributed with 25 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners. Cuban guard Alexis Lavastida (188-77) replied with 19 points and 8 rebounds and power forward Harri Hohteri (200-77) added 15 points in the effort for Torpan Pojat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Lapuan Korikobrat keeps a position of league leader, which they share with FoKoPo and BC Nokia. Torpan Pojat at the other side still closes the standings with two games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Lapuan Korikobrat will play against league's leader BC Nokia at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Torpan Pojat will play against Aanekosken Huima (#4) in Aanekoski to get more than just one victory in their record.
