Regular Season Round 3: Basket Esch - Amicale 88-74

Round 3 in Diekirch League means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Esch where host Basket Esch (2-1) beat league's leader Amicale (2-1) 88-74 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Amicale. The game was mostly controlled by Basket Esch. Amicale managed to win third quarter 22-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 25-of-32 free shots (78.1 percent) during the game. Basket Esch had a 33-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. 29 personal fouls committed by Amicale helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was international forward Martin Rajniak (204-78, college: CSU Bakersfield) who scored 33 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. Slovakian power forward Stefan Svitek (203-77) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 17 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Croatian-Austrian forward Ivan Djerman (203-83) who recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds and American forward Demetrius Brown (201-83, college: San Jose St.) added 20 points respectively. Basket Esch moved-up to third place, which they share with defeated Amicale. Amicale will play next round against Soleuvre trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Basket Esch will try to continue on its current victory against tenth ranked Heffingen on the road.
