Regular Season Round 14: Panteras - Halc.Rojos 68-86
Date: October 9, 2011
There was no surprise in Aguascalientes where 12th ranked Panteras (3-9) were defeated by second ranked Halcones Rojos (11-2) 86-68. The game was mostly controlled by Halcones Rojos. Panteras was better in second period 19-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 17-of-19 charity shots (89.5 percent) during the game. Puerto Rican point guard Carlos Rivera (187-83, college: Hofstra, agency: Paris Global Sports) notched 16 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and Venezuelan point guard Gregory Vargas (182-86) supported him with 14 points, 9 assists and 4 steals. Halcones Rojos' coach Eddie Casiano allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 12 points and 5 rebounds by the former international guard Karim Malpica (190-78, agency: SportsList Inc.) did not help to save the game for Panteras. Puerto Rican point guard Ricardo Melendez (180-83, agency: TSS Management) added 14 points for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Halcones Rojos have an impressive six-game winning streak. They used an opportunity after Fuerza Regia lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Panteras at the other side keep the twelfth place with nine games lost. Halcones Rojos' next round opponent will be Toros (#3) in Nuevo Laredo, which may be the game of the day. Panteras will play on the road against Pioneros (#7) in Cancun.
