Regular Season Round 7: Penarol - GECR Indalo 103-74

Everything could happen in Mar del Plata at the game between two tied teams. Both second ranked Penarol and 5th ranked GECR Indalo had identical 5-3 record. This time Penarol used a home court advantage and outscored the opponent from Comodoro R. 103-74 on Tuesday night. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Penarol. GECR Indalo was better in second period 27-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely GECR Indalo outrebounded Penarol 38-25 including 26 on the defensive glass. They shot the lights out from three sinking 20 long-distance shots on high 55.6 percentage. Penarol looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by GECR Indalo's players. It was a great evening for guard Facundo Campazzo (180-91) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 assists. Guard Selem Safar (190-87) helped adding 21 points. Four Penarol players scored in double figures. Penarol's coach Sergio Hernandez felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American forward Cedric McGowan (198-85, college: Cincinnati, agency: Court Side) responded with 19 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals and American-Nigerian forward Ike Ofoegbu (205-85, college: SMU, agency: Paris Global Sports) scored 17 points and 9 rebounds. Defending champion (6-3) keeps a position of league leader. Loser GECR Indalo dropped to the fourth place with four games lost. Penarol will face Club 9 (#7) in Rio Tercero in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. GECR Indalo will play at home against Quilmes MP in Mar del Plata.
