The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Ventspils as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Ventspils smashed bottom-ranked Liepaja at home 88-69. Liepaja was ahead by 2 points at the halftime before a 50-29 second half run of Ventspils. American guard Jahmar Young (196-86, college: N.Mexico St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points. The other American import guard Steven Gray (195-89, college: Gonzaga) contributed with 14 points and 4 assists for the winners. Five Ventspils players scored in double figures. American guard Josh Mayo (182-87, college: Ill.-Chicago, agency: RIZO) replied with 14 points and 6 assists and guard Martins Kravcenko (192-85) added 14 points in the effort for Liepaja. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Liepaja at the other side still closes the standings with two games lost. Liepaja will play next round against strong Valmiera trying to get back on the winning streak. Ventspils will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Jurmala at home.
