There was no surprise in Parana where 5th ranked Atenas (4-4) was defeated by third ranked Sionista (5-2) 89-81 on Tuesday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 89-81. Atenas was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for the former international swingman Matias Sandes (201-84) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. The former international forward Juan Manuel Locatelli (198-75) helped adding 20 points. At the losing side Panamanian-Spanish power forward Ruben Garces (206-73, college: Providence, agency: Priority Sports) responded with 19 points and 8 rebounds (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!) and the former international swingman Matias Lescano (196-79) scored 21 points. Five Sionista and four Atenas players scored in double figures. Sionista moved-up to second place, which they share with Wuber-Est.Bahia. Atenas lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth position with four games lost. Sionista will face Olimpico de La Banda (#6) on the road in the next round. Atenas will play against San Martin Corrientes.
