Regular Season Round 2: Mad-Croc - Assignia M. 73-79
Date: October 12, 2011
Very predictable result in Madrid where top-ranked Assignia Manresa (2-0) beat bottom-ranked Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (0-2) 79-73. It looked good early as Baloncesto Fuenlabrada took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Assignia Manresa had a 20-9 second period charge getting the lead and Baloncesto Fuenlabrada was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 73-79. Assignia Manresa forced 19 Baloncesto Fuenlabrada turnovers. American forward Justin Doellman (206-85, college: Xavier) notched 16 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and Hungarian guard Adam Hanga (201-89, agency: TSS Management) supported him with 14 points. Even a double-double of 22 points and 16 rebounds by Argentinian-Italian forward Leonardo Mainoldi (204-85) did not help to save the game for Baloncesto Fuenlabrada. Australian guard Kirk Penney (196-80, college: Wisconsin) added 19 points for the hosts. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Assignia Manresa keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada at the other side still closes the standings with two games lost. Assignia Manresa's next round opponent will be Blusens Monbus (#9) in Santoago de Comp and are hoping to win another game. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Madrid Asefa Estudiantes.
