Regular Season Round 3: Spirou - Antwerp 72-65

Date: October 12, 2011
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Spirou Charleroi as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Spirou Charleroi defeated bottom-ranked Antwerp Giants at home 72-65. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Antwerp Giants won third quarter 15-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Spirou Charleroi dominated on the defensive end, holding Antwerp Giants to just 6 points in second quarter. 25 personal fouls committed by Antwerp Giants helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for American guard Christopher Hill (191-83, college: Michigan St.) who led his team to a victory scoring 14 points. Czech forward Jiri Welsch (201-80) helped adding 7 points and 8 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American guard Michael Roll (196-87, college: UCLA) with 10 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import guard Timothy Black (178-81, college: Barton, NC, agency: Limelight Hoops) scored 16 points. Five Antwerp Giants players scored in double figures. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Antwerp Giants at the other side still closes the standings with one game lost. Antwerp Giants will play next round against Optima Gent trying to get back on the winning streak. Spirou Charleroi will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Dexia Mons-Hainaut in Quaregnon.
