Regular Season Round 2: Cajasol - Lucentum 86-61
Date: October 12, 2011
There was a minor upset in Sevilla where one of their biggest challengers Meridiano Alicante (1-1) was outplayed by twelfth ranked Cajasol (1-1) 86-61. The game was mostly controlled by Cajasol. Meridiano Alicante was better in fourth quarter 16-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Cajasol made 19-of-22 charity shots (86.4 percent) during the game. Cajasol outrebounded Meridiano Alicante 41-25 including a 28-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. 24 personal fouls committed by Meridiano Alicante helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Canadian guard Carl English (192-81, college: Hawaii) notched 25 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and American center Paul Davis (211-84, college: Michigan St.) supported him with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Five Cajasol players scored in double figures. Even 13 points and 7 rebounds by naturalized American power forward Lamont Barnes (208-78, college: Temple) did not help to save the game for Meridiano Alicante. American forward Kyle Singler (203-88, college: Duke) added 12 points for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cajasol left bottom position moving up to sixth place, which they share with 7 other teams including defeated Meridiano Alicante. Cajasol's next round opponent will be higher ranked Regal FC Barcelona (#3) at home and it may be quite challenging game.
